A Dhaka court sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 10 years in prison on February 2, 2026, in two separate cases over alleged irregular land allocations in the Purbachal New Town Project.
Her relatives, including niece Tulip Siddiq and nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq, received four and seven years respectively, while other accused were given sentences ranging from two to 10 years.
All 22 individuals were fined 100,000 Bangladeshi taka each, with additional jail time for non-payment.
The cases, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission under the interim government, followed a 2024 uprising that led to Hasina’s ouster.
She and her family have dismissed the verdict as politically driven and biased.
