A steel beam fell 50 feet in Madison, injuring one worker critically and trapping another, who was rescued.
A construction worker in Madison, Wisconsin, is in critical condition after a 20,000- to 30,000-pound steel beam fell about 50 feet from a crane on Saturday morning at the intersection of State and Fairchild Streets around 9:30 a.m.
The beam dropped through multiple sublevels, injuring one worker who fell with it.
Another worker was temporarily stranded above the site but was safely rescued using a basket method by the Madison Fire Department’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
