A Sarnia man was jailed for stealing bikes and breaking into cars, with new charges pending.
A Sarnia judge sentenced 41-year-old William Hayter to four months in jail for stealing two bikes and breaking into vehicles, criticizing his theft skills and urging him to buy bikes if he wants to open a shop.
The charges stem from July 2025 incidents where Hayter stole a $1,300 mountain bike and a $700 e-bike near Lambton Mall, captured on surveillance.
He was arrested in October after fleeing police, with break-in tools found on him.
Hayter, who has a prior record and struggles with substance use, pleaded guilty to theft, possession of break-in tools, and resisting police.
The judge urged him not to return to court, noting his progress on Sublocade treatment.
Hayter now faces new charges for possessing stolen property from a January 14 incident, with a court date pending.
