New Zealand's Spectral Defence wins ActInSpace 2026, earning a spot in the global finals in France.
A New Zealand team, Spectral Defence, has won the national finals of ActInSpace 2026, securing a spot to represent the country at the international competition in Bordeaux, France, in April.
The team, comprising Lee Violet Ong, Alexander Rowe-Meerdink, Ryan Aston, Navneet Kaur, and Zeus Engineer, emerged from a 24-hour innovation challenge in Auckland where 34 participants developed solutions using satellite and space data to tackle real-world issues in sustainability, infrastructure, and resilience.
The event, organized by SpaceBase with support from government and industry partners, featured expert mentors and a judging panel from key space and technology organizations.
The winners will receive ongoing mentorship and join a global initiative led by CNES and ESA, active in over 30 countries and 60 cities.
