Loggerhead turtle Pyari, missing most of her left flipper, was released into the Atlantic with a tracker to study survival of amputee sea turtles.
A loggerhead sea turtle named Pyari, injured in a likely shark attack and missing most of her left front flipper, was released into the Atlantic Ocean after months of rehabilitation at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Florida.
Despite chilly air temperatures, she swam into the warm ocean, fitted with a $10,000 satellite tracker to monitor her movements.
The center is tracking Pyari and two other amputee turtles to study how three-flippered sea turtles survive and behave after release, aiming to improve long-term conservation and recovery efforts.
