The Liberal Party has selected Dr. Danielle Martin, a Toronto family physician and health care advocate, as its candidate for the federal by-election in University-Rosedale, following Chrystia Freeland’s resignation to advise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Martin, known for defending Canada’s health care system before a U.S. Senate committee in 2014, will campaign on strengthening the economy, protecting social programs, and reducing living costs. The by-election date has not yet been set but must be announced between January 20 and July 8, 2026, with the earliest possible vote on March 2. University-Rosedale remains a safe Liberal seat.
