Christian Estoque, 39, was arrested by the FBI’s LAX Joint Terrorism Task Force on January 31, 2026, on suspicion of stealing and flying an unregistered aircraft.
Authorities say he and his girlfriend stole a plane from Auburn Municipal Airport in Washington on January 3, tampered with its transponder, and flew it to Corona Municipal Airport in Riverside County, where it was found three days later.
Estoque, who is not a registered pilot, admitted to flying the plane while under the influence of methamphetamine and claimed he bought it but never registered it.
He was arrested on January 27 during a surveillance operation after attempting to steal another plane at Corona.
He made his initial court appearance and was released on bond.
The FBI continues to investigate the incident, which is being treated as a violation of federal aviation laws with no evidence of terrorism or criminal intent.
