Uber Eats to pay $3.5M over failing to pay delivery workers minimum wage for canceled trips.
Uber Eats has agreed to pay $3.5 million in restitution and penalties after New York City found it failed to pay delivery workers the minimum wage for time spent on canceled trips from December 2023 to September 2024.
The city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection ordered Uber to pay $3.15 million to 48,000 workers and $350,000 in penalties.
Uber also agreed to reinstate up to 10,000 workers wrongfully deactivated.
Fantuan and HungryPanda are required to pay a combined $1.5 million in restitution and penalties.
The settlement, part of a $5.2 million total, follows a January warning to over 60 delivery companies to comply with new worker protections.
