Two North Dakota fifth-graders won a word challenge by making 149 words from "Thanksgiving Day."
Two fifth-graders from Cavalier, North Dakota, Winnie Crowston and Sena Kihne, won a statewide word challenge by creating 149 words from the letters in "Thanksgiving Day," according to Marlene Kouba of the North Dakota Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE).
The annual contest, held for 15 to 20 years, encourages creative, independent learning through wordplay, with past themes including "thank-a-farmer" and favorite agricultural commodities.
Though typically individual, collaboration was allowed, and the girls’ joint effort earned them first place.
