Somerset expands recycling for 13,000 flats starting March 2026, including food waste and plastics, via government funding.
Somerset Council is expanding recycling services for 13,000 flats and communal housing residents starting March 2026, funded by the government’s Simpler Recycling programme.
The update will allow recycling of plastic bottles, pots, tins, cans, foil, aerosols, glass, cartons, food waste, and plastic bags and wrappers.
Affected households will receive a mailer with new collection details and will get new bins and food waste caddies.
Councillor Richard Wilkins highlighted environmental benefits, noting those not receiving a notice will see no changes.
