Ohio delays three executions due to unavailability of execution drugs, pushing dates to 2029.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has delayed the executions of three death row inmates—Gerald Hand, Danny Lee Hill, and Cleveland R. Jackson—due to ongoing difficulties in obtaining execution drugs.
Hill’s execution is now set for July 18, 2029, Hand’s for April 18, 2029, and Jackson’s for June 13, 2029, all pushed back from 2026 dates.
The delays stem from pharmaceutical suppliers’ unwillingness to provide drugs for executions under Ohio’s protocols.
Hill was convicted in the 1985 murder of 12-year-old Raymond Fife, Hand in the 2003 killings of his fourth wife and a friend, and Jackson in a 2002 robbery that resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
The state continues to face challenges in carrying out executions due to drug supply issues.
