Mexico City’s Historic Center Trust launches 2026 campaign to restore and promote 40 historic churches through events, workshops, and publications.
A new 2026 campaign by Mexico City’s Historic Center Trust is promoting public engagement with over 40 historic churches, including La Profesa and Santo Domingo, through 26 cultural events.
The initiative, led by experts like art historian Alejandro Hernández and architect Alejandra Barrón, focuses on restoring La Profesa—founded in 1610 and rebuilt in 1714—after damage from the 2017 earthquake, including repairs to its gallery housing centuries-old artworks.
The trust, under municipal oversight, also runs workshops, exhibitions, and publishes Kilómetro Cero to highlight local history and foster youth appreciation for the city’s layered cultural legacy.
