ICE arrested over 650 people in West Virginia in January 2026 amid a two-week operation.
In January 2026, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested over 650 individuals believed to be in the U.S. illegally across West Virginia during a two-week enforcement operation.
The raids, conducted from January 5 to 19, targeted cities including Charleston, Huntington, and Martinsburg, with ICE citing national security, public safety, and criminal records as reasons for the arrests.
The operation was carried out in partnership with 14 local law enforcement agencies participating in the 287(g) program, which allows state and local officers to assist in immigration enforcement.
Some individuals had prior convictions or deportation orders.
The effort followed West Virginia’s 287(g) agreement signed in August 2025 and drew both support and protest.
