A major global manga piracy network centered on Bato.to and around 60 related sites has been dismantled after a joint operation by Japanese publishers and Chinese authorities.
The operator, arrested in November 2025 in Guangxi, admitted to running the sites, which used AI-assisted scanalation to distribute pirated manga and manhwa, drawing up to 350 million monthly visits and earning over $57,000 monthly in ad revenue.
The shutdown, led by Japan’s CODA and supported by China Literature and ethical hackers, marks a significant cross-border anti-piracy victory.
The suspect was released on bail and faces formal charges, while legal manga platforms report increased traffic.
