Former Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan seeks new trial after felony conviction for blocking federal immigration arrest at courthouse.
Former Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan, convicted in December of felony obstruction for intervening in a federal immigration arrest at a courthouse, has filed a motion seeking a new trial or acquittal.
Her defense argues she acted in good faith and within her official duties, claiming the jury received inconsistent legal instructions and that federal agents lacked authority to arrest inside a courthouse.
Dugan, who resigned in January 2026 amid impeachment threats, is the first U.S. judge convicted of a felony for such conduct.
The case, stemming from April 2025, has drawn national attention over judicial authority and immigration enforcement.
The court has not yet ruled, and the government has until February 20 to respond.
