The Edmonton Elks have released quarterback Tre Ford and named Cody Fajardo as their starter for the 2026 CFL season.
Ford, a 2022 first-round pick, had a 1-4 start in 2025 before being replaced.
Fajardo, 33, led the team to a 6-7 record, throwing for 3,408 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The move, described as a strategic decision by GM Ed Hervey, does not reflect on Ford’s ability.
The Elks also signed receiver Austin Mack.
Other CFL teams re-signed key players, including Saskatchewan’s DaMarcus Fields and Hamilton’s Destin Talbert.
