BJP MP Manoj Tiwari filed a police complaint in Delhi over a fake Facebook account impersonating him, using his photo and name to spread false content, including criticism of UGC regulations.
The account, which falsely bore a blue verification tick, was reported on January 22, prompting Delhi Police to register an FIR under IT Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for identity theft and defamation.
Authorities have removed the content and are investigating the perpetrators.
Separately, Mumbai Police arrested a former domestic worker, Surendra Kumar Deenanath Sharma, for allegedly stealing over Rs 5.4 lakh from Tiwari’s flat using duplicate keys, with CCTV evidence and a confession.
The case is ongoing.
