Alberta MLA Scott Sinclair stays independent, opposing new party and boundary changes.
Northern Alberta MLA Scott Sinclair has announced he will remain an independent in the provincial legislature, declining to join the newly formed Progressive Tory Party led by Peter Guthrie.
Sinclair cited his commitment to representing northern Albertans without partisan constraints, following his removal from the UCP caucus in March 2025 after criticizing the party’s 2025 budget.
He also opposes proposed electoral boundary changes that would reduce northern ridings.
The legislature’s composition remains unchanged: 47 UCP members, 38 NDP members, one Progressive Tory, and Sinclair as the lone independent.
