A 16-year-old boy died in an Australian forest creek after separating from his friend during a hike; the 17-year-old was rescued.
A 16-year-old boy was found dead in a creek in Blue Gum Forest, Blue Mountains National Park, Australia, after becoming separated from his 17-year-old companion during a camping trip.
The teens, who arrived at Leura Train Station on Tuesday and hiked toward Mount Hay, became separated Wednesday evening, prompting the older boy to activate a personal locator beacon around 6 p.m. A multi-agency search involving helicopters, paramedics, and ground teams rescued the 17-year-old from Acacia Flats, about 36 kilometers from Mount Hay.
The 16-year-old’s body was discovered in a creek at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities have not released the cause of death, and the incident remains under investigation.
