The World Bank is considering a $15 million financing package to support a methane leak reduction project in Azerbaijan, targeting Azerigaz’s gas distribution network. The initiative, pending approval by April 23, 2026, will use a results-based funding model backed by a grant from the Global Flaring and Methane Reduction Partnership. SOCAR will manage funds and transfer them to Azerigaz for approved leak repairs prioritized by cost, complexity, and emission impact. The project builds on a Baku pilot, enhances emissions monitoring and reporting capabilities to meet OGMP 2.0 standards, and allows reinvestment of savings from reduced leaks to sustain operations.
