Westmorland and Furness approved 24 new 20mph zones after public input, aiming to boost safety in towns and villages.
Westmorland and Furness have approved 24 new 20mph speed limit zones following a public consultation with over 5,200 responses, bringing the total to 44 zones across the region.
The measures, aimed at improving safety in towns and villages with current 40mph limits, were driven by community support in areas like Clifton, Cartmel, and Satterthwaite.
All eight proposed zones in Furness, including areas near schools, will move forward, while Castletown in Penrith will be reviewed separately due to mixed feedback.
The initiative, launched in December 2023, uses a streamlined process for community requests, with more zones expected later in the year.
