Vietnam launches Southeast Asia’s largest nearshore wind projects using advanced turbines, targeting grid connection by October 2026.
Envision Energy and Vietnam’s REE Group are developing two nearshore wind projects in Vinh Long Province, totaling 128 megawatts—the largest single-turbine nearshore wind projects in Southeast Asia.
The projects, V1-3 Phase II and V1-5&6 Phase II, will use 16 EN-226/8.XMW offshore turbines, marking Vietnam’s first deployment of such high-capacity, large-rotor turbines.
Designed for humid, salty coastal conditions, the turbines are based on offshore standards and are expected to connect to the grid by October 2026.
The initiative is among the first approved under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII and aims to support the country’s net-zero goals.
Envision is working with local suppliers to overcome manufacturing challenges, and the project is seen as a model for future offshore wind development across Southeast Asia.
