UK’s Octopus Energy enters China via joint venture to trade renewable power, targeting 140 TWh annually by 2030.
Octopus Energy, the UK’s largest electricity supplier, has entered China through a joint venture with PCG Power, launching Bitong Energy to trade renewable power.
The partnership, announced during Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit, aims to trade up to 140 terawatt-hours of renewable energy annually—equivalent to the UK’s current green output—by 2030, generate £50 million in annual profits, with half returning to the UK, and reach a £500 million valuation within five years.
The venture, starting in Guangdong province, combines Octopus’ trading technology with PCG Power’s local expertise.
