The program now covers approximately six million households in England and Wales that receive qualifying means-tested benefits, up from 2.7 million last year. Suppliers who serve more than 1,000 customers apply the discount automatically. Those who believe they are eligible but have not received it should contact a helpline by February 27. The move comes as average annual energy bills have reached £1,758, with a £150 reduction in average bills set to begin in April due to the end of the Energy Company Obligation scheme.
