Tampa Bay Lightning star Nikita Kucherov left Thursday's home game against the Winnipeg Jets in the first period after a hard hit from Jets defenseman Logan Stanley, who is 6-foot-7.
The collision occurred with about 10 minutes left in the period, with the game scoreless and neither player tracking the play.
Kucherov, visibly in pain, skated off the ice and headed to the dressing room.
He is a three-time Art Ross Trophy winner and 2019 Hart Memorial Trophy recipient, currently third in NHL scoring with 80 points and on a six-game point streak.
The Lightning led 1-0 after the first period, and the extent of Kucherov’s injury was not immediately known.
