A NSW nurse lost his license after being convicted for firing a gun at a home while on parole.
David John Keith Pritchard, a former nurse from Shellharbour, has had his registration revoked by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal after being convicted for shooting at a house in April 2023 while holding a hunting firearms licence.
At the time, he was working at Goulburn Base Hospital and had previously been dismissed in 2017 over patient care concerns.
Pritchard, who pleaded guilty to reckless firearm use, was sentenced to three years in prison with an 18-month non-parole period and released on parole in February 2025.
The tribunal cited the seriousness of the crime, his history of anger issues, and documented mental health conditions including alcohol use disorder and explosive anger disorder.
While acknowledging his remorse and early guilty plea, NCAT cancelled his registration, barred him from reviewing the decision for a year, ordered him to follow a psychologist’s treatment plan, and mandated he pay 80% of the Health Care Complaints Commission’s legal costs.
