Maharashtra delayed local elections to Feb. 7–9 for mourning after Deputy CM Ajit Pawar's Jan. 28 plane crash.
Maharashtra has postponed elections for 12 zilla parishads and 125 panchayat samitis to February 7, with vote counting on February 9, following a three-day state mourning after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s death in an air crash on January 28.
The original schedule was delayed due to the mourning period from January 28 to 30.
Voting will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on February 7, with campaigning ending at 10 p.m. on February 5.
The State Election Commission confirmed all prior steps—nomination filings, symbol allotments, and candidate lists—were completed.
A total of 2,624 candidates contest zilla parishad seats and 4,814 run for panchayat samiti positions.
Results will be published in the government gazette by February 11.
