Irish builders warn rental reforms may violate rights, urging talks before March 2026 eviction ban takes effect.
Irish home builders, including David Daly, Michael Stanley, Seán Mulryan, Pat Crean, and Bernie Carroll, have warned the government that proposed rental reforms may breach the Irish Constitution and European Convention on Human Rights, particularly regarding property rights.
In letters dated January 8 and 23, they urged Minister for Housing James Browne and Tánaiste Simon Harris to hold meaningful talks before legislation introducing a ban on no-fault evictions for landlords with over four tenancies is introduced on March 1, 2026.
The developers, citing legal concerns over proportionality and lawfulness, said they reserve all legal rights and may pursue challenges if consultation does not occur, despite the government’s claim that the reforms are necessary to increase rental supply and were developed with legal input.
