Gujarat has reduced leprosy prevalence below the elimination threshold of one case per 10,000 people in 25 districts, according to data through December 2025.
The state identified over 11,640 new cases between 2023 and 2025, including more than 3,900 hidden cases through targeted drives, and provided free multi-drug therapy to all.
Case numbers dropped from 4,323 in 2023–24 to 3,288 in 2025–26, with fewer child cases.
Gujarat launched the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign from January 30 to February 13, 2026, to combat stigma, promote early detection, and reinforce that leprosy is curable and not contagious through touch.
The state also distributed over 26,120 specialized shoes and 8,300 ulcer care kits, performed 81 reconstructive surgeries, and prioritized rehabilitation.
Health officials emphasize that timely treatment prevents disability and ensures dignity.
