A Florida man, Sean Alterman, 38, pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud Medicare of $52 million by billing for unnecessary genetic tests.
He used deceptive telemarketing to recruit seniors, obtained fraudulent doctor orders via fake prescriptions, and funneled $5.5 million in profits through shell companies.
Alterman forfeited his home and a luxury car, and faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing on April 16.
The case was prosecuted by the Justice Department’s Fraud Section and supported by the FBI and HHS-OIG.
