A fire in Taiwan's Yunlin County burned 1 hectare of bamboo forest, was extinguished Jan. 30, and is suspected to be human-caused.
A forest fire in Yunlin County’s Shibi area burned about one hectare of bamboo forest before being extinguished early January 30 after an overnight effort by over 30 personnel.
Reported Thursday evening near the Jiuxiong Sacred Tree, the blaze was brought under control by 4 a.m., with residual heat detected by infrared scans requiring continued water spraying.
This marks the second fire in the region this month, following a separate blaze on January 12 that burned eight hectares.
The cause remains unknown, but officials and residents suspect human activity, possibly related to the winter bamboo shoot harvest season.
