Colchester Zoo introduced nine-month-old fennec fox Pinky on January 21, 2026, to join male Otis in a breeding program.
Colchester Zoo has introduced Pinky, a nine-month-old fennec fox, from Longleat Safari Park, arriving January 21, 2026.
The tiny fox, weighing 1.5kg and measuring 24 to 41cm, will join male Otis in a breeding program.
Fennec foxes, known for large ears and desert origins, are monogamous and live in family units.
Females give birth to two to five pups after a 50- to 53-day gestation, with males providing food while females care for young.
Though listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, they face threats from the illegal pet trade and exhibition.
The zoo hopes the pair will bond and contribute to conservation efforts.
