Azerbaijan and Georgia finalized agreements to fully operate the BTK rail line, boosting freight capacity and strengthening the Middle Corridor.
On January 29, 2026, Azerbaijan Railways’ ADY and Georgian Railways signed agreements to enable full operations of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) line, granting ADY access to the Marabda–Akhalkalaki rail section and terminal services at Akhalkalaki.
The 184-kilometer Georgian segment has been modernized, boosting annual freight capacity from 1 million to 5 million tons.
BTKI Railways LLC, established in August 2024, now manages operations, aiming to increase freight volumes and strengthen the Middle Corridor’s role as a key Asia-Europe rail route.
