A 61-year-old Japanese man was arrested for allegedly using false info to run a child prostitution blog in Laos, with evidence linking him to payments and photos, despite his denial.
Tokyo police arrested a 61-year-old man from Osaka on January 27, 2024, over suspected use of false information to operate a now-suspended Japanese blog linked to child prostitution in Laos.
Authorities found matching photos on his devices and bank records showing about 550,000 yen in payments from the site, believed from around 40 buyers.
The suspect, who has visited Laos 17 times, denies involvement, claiming he lent his address to a stranger met in a Laotian bar.
The blog, which included images and descriptions of child exploitation, prompted multiple reports to Japan’s child pornography hotline.
Japanese law allows prosecution of its citizens for such crimes abroad, even without victim complaints, and ignorance of a victim’s age is not a defense.
The case is being jointly investigated with Laotian authorities.
