Washington state renews push to let adults grow up to six cannabis plants at home to address racial disparities in enforcement.
Washington state lawmakers are reviving Senate Bill 6204, which would allow adults 21 and over to grow up to six cannabis plants at home, aiming to reduce racial disparities in enforcement where Black and Hispanic residents are disproportionately arrested.
The bill, the 11th attempt since 2012 legalization, faces opposition from law enforcement and cities citing youth exposure and increased police workload, though supporters argue home growing won’t harm regulated sales or tax revenue.
The legislation excludes homes with children or daycares, and the Liquor and Cannabis Board won’t regulate it.
A House companion bill is expected to be heard soon.
