A UK businessman was sentenced for fraudulently obtaining £100,000 in pandemic loans meant for one per business.
Prashant Jobanputra, a Northwood businessman and former director of Genesis Web Limited, was sentenced on January 27, 2026, to an 18-month suspended prison term, a £5,000 fine, and a three-year director disqualification for fraudulently obtaining two Bounce Back Loans totaling £100,000 in July 2020, violating the scheme’s one-loan-per-business rule.
He claimed he did not read the loan agreement and said his business was severely impacted by the pandemic.
The company, which produced personalized photo items, was dissolved in March 2024 after entering liquidation in 2021.
Jobanputra repaid £15,371 by November 2025, but £35,000 remains unpaid.
The Insolvency Service is pursuing recovery of the outstanding amount under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and continues investigating fraud in pandemic support schemes.
