Starting February 1, 2026, about 1,310 SNAP recipients in seven rural Oregon counties will be exempt from federal work requirements through December, due to lack of local employment services.
The Oregon Department of Human Services will automatically apply the exemption monthly, requiring no action from recipients.
The move, based on federal SNAP rules allowing discretionary waivers in areas without access to job programs, applies to Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents and is not linked to the HR1 law.
SNAP supports over 730,000 Oregonians, with each benefit dollar generating $1.50 to $1.80 in local economic activity.
