South Africa is reviewing a 2012 farm murder convict’s 2026 parole approval due to legal procedures.
South Africa’s Correctional Services Minister Pieter Groenewald has referred a parole decision for a 29-year-old man convicted of murdering three family members in a 2012 farm attack to the Correctional Supervision and Parole Review Board for review.
The original parole approval by the Upington board, set to begin March 25, 2026, has been suspended pending the review under Section 75(8) of the Correctional Services Act.
The referral is a procedural step to ensure legal compliance and public confidence, not a judgment on the case’s merits.
The offender, who was 17 at the time of the crime, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The final decision will be made after a full review of the case record.
