Singapore police are testing a new load-bearing vest to reduce back strain by shifting gear weight from waist belts to the upper body, easing stress linked to long shifts. The prototype, developed with HTX, includes cooling fans and mesh to lower body temperature by 2°C, improving heat tolerance. Early trials revealed issues with bulk and slow donning, prompting design changes like replacing a waist sash with Velcro and enlarging pouches. A revised version is now being tested at Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre, with officers reporting better comfort and less fatigue. The project, revived in 2023 after initial work began in 2015, aims to boost officer well-being and performance amid rising temperatures.
