A Quebec woman, Stéphanie Borel, was sentenced to 27 months in prison on January 28, 2026, for throwing boiling water on a 10-year-old boy during a prank in Longueuil, Quebec, on October 2, 2024.
The boy, who is Black, suffered second-degree burns covering about four percent of his body, including his face, chest, and shoulder.
Borel, frustrated by repeated "ding-dong ditch" pranks, opened her door and threw the scalding water before the boy could ring the bell.
The court accepted a joint recommendation from the Crown and defense, and Borel will serve 20 months of her sentence.
A publication ban remains in effect to protect the boy’s identity.
