A special prosecutor has concluded that St. Clair Township Officer Dakota Wetzel’s use of deadly force in the January 2025 shooting was justified, resulting in no criminal charges.
The incident, which killed Joe Como, 29, and 4-year-old Rosalie Martin, occurred during a mental health crisis response.
Como, who had left a doctor’s appointment, advanced toward Wetzel with a firearm after being told to stop.
Wetzel fired five shots in under 40 seconds, with one bullet striking Martin through a nearby dentist’s office.
The prosecutor found no time for de-escalation, citing rapid escalation and the threat posed.
Wetzel remains on administrative leave.
