North Cumbria reduced long waits for emergencies and cancer care in late 2025, with delays dropping significantly by December.
North Cumbria Integrated Care reports progress in reducing emergency and cancer treatment wait times, with patients waiting over 65 weeks dropping from 32 to 10 and those over 52 weeks decreasing from 1,447 to 1,183 between November and December.
Cancer treatment delays also improved, falling from 641 to 341 patients waiting over 62 days.
Leaders attribute gains to staff engagement and ongoing reforms, including a new Urgent Treatment Centre near Cumberland Infirmary’s A&E, expected to ease emergency department pressure.
Full transformation is targeted for January 2026, with incremental improvements anticipated throughout the year.
