A mural honoring Jane Haining, a Scottish missionary who stayed in Budapest during WWII to care for Jewish schoolgirls and died in Auschwitz, has been unveiled in Paisley, Scotland.
Designed by local artists Alexander Guy and Caroline Gormley, the 9-foot by 65-foot artwork features Haining with children reading and portraits of her at different ages.
It will be painted on a wall near routes she once walked, beginning in spring 2026, and is commissioned by the Renfrewshire branch of Unison.
The unveiling, held on Holocaust Memorial Day, included a ceremony with family and community members, including her niece Deirdre MacDowell, who praised the tribute and hopes it will educate future generations about Haining’s bravery.
