Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, 66, died in a plane crash en route to a rally; his body was taken to Baramati for cremation.
The Antim Yatra, a ceremonial funeral procession, is being held in remembrance of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who passed away in a plane crash on January 29, 2026. Final ceremonies are set for 11 a.m. at the Vidya Pratishthan campus in Baramati. His body is being transported throughout the city in a flower-decorated rath. Tributes to Pawar, a longtime deputy chief minister and well-known NCP leader, come to an end with this event, which is attended by mourners and political leaders. Due to poor visibility, the pilot, co-pilot, and flight attendant perished in the crash, which happened during a go-around at Baramati airport. The other victims' remains were released to their families after postmortems were finished. Jay and Parth, Pawar's sons, and his wife Sunetra survive him.
