MACH Energy seeks to extend and expand its Mount Pleasant coal mine amid new climate review rules.
MACH Energy Australia has requested a six-year extension of its Mount Pleasant coal mine operations until December 31, 2032, and an increase in coal extraction to 12.5 million tonnes per year, following a 2024 court ruling that overturned a prior expansion approval.
The decision, won by community group DAMS HEG, requires climate change impacts to be assessed in all fossil fuel project approvals in the Upper Hunter region.
The current mine permit expires December 22, 2026, and MACH is preparing a modification report for submission.
