Los Angeles Councilmember Curren Price Jr. to stand trial on 12 felony counts over alleged embezzlement and conflict of interest.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price Jr. has been ordered to stand trial on 12 felony counts, including grand theft by embezzlement, conflict of interest, and perjury.
Prosecutors allege he voted on city projects benefiting his wife’s business while failing to recuse himself, and used about $33,800 in city funds for her medical benefits by falsely claiming she was his spouse.
The judge ruled there was enough evidence to proceed, rejecting defense claims of lack of intent and statute of limitations.
Price, who is term-limited and stepping down, pleaded not guilty.
His next court date is March 13.
