The Lake District National Park Authority will decide on February 4, 2026, whether to approve redevelopment plans for Brandlehow Cottage in Keswick, a historic lakeside property.
The proposal, submitted by London plastic surgeon Dr Jag Chana, seeks ground and first-floor extensions after a prior plan to demolish the cottage was rejected in 2023.
Park officers recommend denial, citing concerns over the site’s ecological sensitivity, proximity to a Special Area of Conservation and old lead mine, and excessive glass that could disrupt the landscape.
The 'Teddy in the Window' landmark has drawn strong opposition from local groups, with 36 objections citing heritage and visual impact, while 12 support the design’s potential to blend modern and traditional elements.
The final decision will be made by the development control committee.
