The National Highway Authority of India has launched the Rs 16,491 crore, 464-km Raipur-Vishakhapatnam Economic Corridor, India’s first 6-lane access-controlled expressway in Chhattisgarh, reducing travel time to seven hours.
The project, spanning 125 km in Chhattisgarh, links industrial hubs, tribal regions, and ports, including Vishakhapatnam Port, and passes through Dhamtari, Kanker, Bastar, and Kondagaon.
It includes a 2.79-km twin-tube tunnel through the Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve’s eco-sensitive zone, the first in Chhattisgarh, with wildlife protections like overpasses, underpasses, and a monkey canopy.
The corridor aims to boost economic activity, improve connectivity, and reduce emissions through sustainable infrastructure.
