Florida launches a $1,700 refundable tax credit program in 2027 to boost school choice for K–12 students.
Beginning on January 1, 2027, Florida will become a member of the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit program, which will enable taxpayers to claim refundable tax credits of up to $1,700 per year for contributions made to organizations that offer scholarships.
For students from households making up to 300% of the local median income, the credit covers K–12 educational costs such as tuition, supplies, and transportation.
With roughly 1.4 million students enrolled in private, charter, virtual, or homeschool settings, Florida already boasts the biggest school choice system in the country.
The state hopes to increase access even more.
Governor Ron DeSantis announced the action, which is consistent with Florida's universal eligibility policy and top national ranking for educational freedom.
