A fire destroyed a 50-by-300-foot chicken barn at Maplehofe Dairy in East Drumore Township, Lancaster County, around 3:25 p.m. on January 29, 2026, caused by heaters used to warm an empty barn for an incoming shipment of chicks.
The blaze, which spread rapidly through bedding material, resulted in a complete loss of the structure and $300,000 in damages, but no injuries or animal deaths were reported.
Fire crews from multiple counties contained the fire by 5 p.m., with support from dairy employees.
The farm closed early but planned to resume operations Thursday.
The Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority recently approved a $400,000 low-interest loan for the dairy’s expansion.
The cause remains under investigation.
